Political Experience

After legal articles, Don worked at the Alberta Legislature as a Researcher for the NDP Official Opposition Caucus. In 1990, he was made Executive Assistant to Alberta NDP Opposition Leader Ray Martin. His duties included writing speeches, drafting questions for Question Period, developing policy, and advising the Leader on strategy and tactics. Don then worked on Glen Clark’s campaigns and sat on the provincial Vancouver Kingsway Constituency Executive for five years. He currently sits on the Vancouver Kingsway federal Riding Executive.

A Progressive Voice

Don has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to social justice. In the 1980s he was a volunteer for Tools for Peace and other groups working with Central American progressive movements. As a law student, he was active in Lawyers for Social Responsibility, a national group for nuclear disarmament. He has been a member of the NDP for over 20 years.

Experience and Expertise in Federal Issues

Through his legal training and experience as a labour advocate, Don has gained extensive expertise in areas of federal and provincial law that are vital to the economic interests and human rights of working people. From taxation and bankruptcy matters to human rights, labour, occupational health and transportation issues, Don knows how legislation is formed, analyzed and applied in the federal arena.
