Margaret Mitchell recently released her memoirs 'No Laughing Matter' at the Strathcona Community Centre. Margaret (former NDP MP for Vancouver East from 1979-1993) first brought the issue of spousal abuse to the forefront in Canada and was the first politician to demand redress for the payers of the Chinese Head Tax. She also advocated strongly for, among other things, affordable housing, multiculturalism, childcare, and the rights of poor people.

Net proceeds from book sales will go to 'The Margaret Mitchell Fund for Women', which was established after her retirement.
