protect the environment and establish a green economy
Our environment is the foundation of all activity, and life itself.
Protecting, preserving and enhancing it is pre-eminent.
“We all know that the economy will be affected by any serious attempt

to make sure that our plan for fighting climate change doesn’t put the onus on the nations'

reduce the cost-of-living for average families
The rising costs of living related to energy, tuition and training,
price-gouging on gas, and excessive bank charges, coupled with little
or no increase in real wages is making it hard for the average
Canadian to make ends meet.

ensure affordable housing for all individuals and families
We must insist that the Federal Government
play a larger role in the provision of affordable housing
after years of wilful neglect by both Liberal and Conservative
governments. Housing is a basic human right.

provide fairer treatment of immigrants
This would include the recognition of foreign credentials, making it easier to re-unite families
/ relatives and better support programs to help immigrants succeed in their new country.

protect and expand Medicare
It’s not enough merely to defend our system of public universal health care -
we must extend it to include prescription drugs, add more long-term care spaces,
and expanded home care coverage.

establish laws to restore democratic integrity to the political process
We must make it mandatory for political opportunists like David Emerson to resign and run in a by-election.
We also need more fundamental reforms like proportional representation to better reflect Canadians’ democratic choices.

provide well-paying jobs and a secure economic future
The NDP have laid out a bold and realistic plan to strengthen and renew Canada's manufacturing
and forestry sectors; our plan would emphasize smart investment and innovation, promote fair
trade policies, and foster the development of green industries.

provide a national daycare program
The NDP plan calls for an initial 150,000 spaces, with the longer term goal of a
space for every child needing one.
