Davies Urges Emerson to Run In Kingsway - Letter to the Editor (Globe and Mail)

Dear Sirs / Mesdames:

I see that David Emerson is once again musing about running for MP in the next federal election.

However, what riding he may seek to represent is left open for speculation.

I would take this opportunity to remind him of two comments he made upon his defection in early February, 2006.

First, he claimed that his decision was made "in the best interests of the constituents of Vancouver Kingsway."

Moreover, he pledged that the citizens of Vancouver Kingsway "will have an opportunity to pass judgment on [him] at the next election."

As a resident of Vancouver Kingsway, I sincerely hope he intends to honour that promise.

In a democracy, it should be the voters who have the final say on decisions made by their representatives.

Given his arrogant betrayal of this principle once already, however, I am not optimistic that Mr. Emerson will keep his word.
