The NDP introduced legislation Monday that they said would close a “loophole” in the Canadian Labour Code that allows employers to use managers as replacement workers during strikes and lockouts. The bill comes after a months-long Rogers strike in Abbotsford, B.C., where managers from across the country were brought in to perform work normally done by striking technicians.
As Davies told The Tyee, “in an election, voters get the opportunity to express their democratic choice. When a parliamentarian crosses the floor to join a different party than they were elected with, they are unilaterally — at the very least — altering the will of their electorate.” He believes that it also creates a “corrosive effect on our democracy” and is “undeniably undemocratic.”
NDP MP Don Davies criticized Prime Minister Mark Carney's new AI strategy, saying it 'leaves Canadians dangerously exposed' and called for a 'humans-first AI strategy.' He said the strategy was rushed and done with limited consultation. 'Now they're mouthing the lines of tech billionaires,' Davies said.
