“By the end of 2024 ... up to nine million Canadians who presently do not have access to dental care will be covered ... through a publicly administered, publicly funded plan,” NDP MP Don Davies told Canada’s National Observer in an interview. “It's the single biggest expansion of public health care in 60 years.”
NDP MP Don Davies, the party's health critic, agreed that some sort of public option for vaccine production is prudent but the government's handling of the NRC facility has been "a major failure."
He said it suggests Ottawa has a "serious credibility issue."
"We are two years plus into this pandemic and we still aren't producing a single dose of a vaccine in this country. It's a policy fail, an accountability fail and a credibility fail," he said in an interview with CBC News.
According to the federal NDP, the Liberal government has displayed a “lack of leadership” when it comes to meeting HIV targets across the country.
In a statement issued Tuesday, NDP health critic Don Davies noted the funding boost by the Liberals still falls short of the $100 million the 18-organization health coalition campaigned for ahead of the conference. The additional funds are still below the 2003 and 2019 bipartisan recommendations for an annual federal allocation of $100 million to fight HIV/AIDS.

NDP health critic Don Davies said it is "unacceptable" for doses to expire when millions of people still haven't received even a single shot.
"There is no excuse for such waste," Davies said.
He called on the federal government to finally release all the details of its contracts for vaccines, and its plan for using the doses.
